First Step: The stone needs to be placed on a damp towel or cloth. They are to be kept on the flat surface to prevent towels and stones from sliding when sharpening.

Second Step: The stone’s coarse side on top is to be started with since it is an effective and fast way of having the knife blade back into the appropriate shape.

Third Step: The stone needs to be lubricated. Some stones may use oil. A recommended lubricant is to be used. Whichever lubricant is selected, after the first use, it is not to be changed. While making use of oils, approved ones for sharpening stones are only to be used. One should avoid using food oils like olive and vegetable oil.

Fourth Step: For applying lubricant, a small line of oil is to be poured on the stone’s middle. The water or oil is to be spread and massaged gently and evenly across the sharpening stone. It is now ready for sharpening.

It should be noted due to the nature of the material all stones have some minor chipping on edges which does not affect the function of the stone, render it faulty or not fit for purpose. Item is new in box and minor chipping on a new stone is normal with this material and grit.
